The Feeling We Mistake for Need

Many times, we are not chasing the thing itself... We are chasing the feeling we imagine it will give us.

Have you ever wanted something so badly that you thought you couldn't wait another day without it?

Then you finally got it, and after the excitement wore off, you realized you hardly used it or perhaps didn't really need it in the first place.

I've experienced this more times than I can count, and over the years, I've learned something interesting:
Many times, we don't really crave the thing itself; we crave the feeling we imagine it will give us.
  • Sometimes it's the influence of people around us.
  • Sometimes it's a clever marketing strategy.
  • Sometimes it's simply the excitement of wanting.
And once that desire is satisfied, we suddenly see things differently.

❝Many times, what we think we need is not the thing itself, but the feeling we imagine it will give us. One of the greatest forms of wealth is learning to tell the difference.❞
Oghenemine Benedicta (The Global Woman)

I've learned that contentment is not the absence of ambition. It's the wisdom to recognize the difference between a genuine need and an emotional desire disguised as one.
  • Not every urge deserves immediate gratification.
  • Not every discount is a blessing.
  • Not every "must-have" is truly necessary.
And perhaps one of the greatest forms of wealth is not having more, but knowing when enough is enough.

Have you ever bought something you thought you couldn't live without, only to realize later that you barely needed it?

Or is it just me?
